UNC Football: Donavon Hoilette Jr’s Stat Line Doesn’t Tell the Story
Donavon Hoilette Jr. wasn't all over the stat sheet against TCU. ESPN credited him with two tackles. That's hardly the kind of box score that jumps off the page.
But there was one play where Hoilette made his presence felt, and it was a play that mattered.
With TCU facing a fourth down, Hoilette helped make sure the Horned Frogs didn't get it. It wasn't just another tackle in a game filled with them. It was a fourth-down stop, and those are the plays that can change the direction of a football game.
That's something worth remembering when we look at defensive statistics. Tackles matter. Sacks matter. Turnovers matter. But sometimes a player's biggest contribution comes on one play at exactly the right moment.
Hoilette finished the game with only one solo tackle and two assisted tackles, but when UNC needed a stop, he was part of making it happen.
That's the kind of play that doesn't necessarily show up when you simply look at the box score.
